Mara Sprafkin
Artist Statement
Girl with Fruit Plastic is made with a stamp, ink and acrylic on graph paper. I had the stamp made from a drawing and I am using it in the larger installation pieces that I have been working on recently. The image filled a gallery at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN in the fall of 2011 and continues to work herself into some other upcoming projects.
Biography
Mara Sprafkin has a BA from Bowdoin College and and MFA from Columbia University. She has trouble sitting still which is probably why she is currently splitting her time between Brooklyn, New York and Charlottesville, Virginia. Luckily her loyal studio assistant, Paul is willing to follow her around. Sprafkin mostly recently did a large public art project in honor of Queen Charlotte with Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA and is working on her upcoming show in Nashville, TN at Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2011.
