Gathering: Pilsen, in collaboration with Proximal Distance, was an exhibition hosted by the Storefront Studio in Chicago. The Chicago neighborhood of Pilsen is the focal point of an artistic exploration of history, space and culture. From March through July 2012, ||| (3-art) explored the Pilsen neighborhood via the internet through historical records, literature, art, music, interviews and engagement with the local community.

Leah Gauthier researched the food history of Pilsen. She made tiny seedling sculptures, bringing to light a palimpsest of cultural influences that make up the foodscape heritage of this neighborhood.

Andrea Wenglowskyj explored the photographic representation of Pilsen online. She created text and image pieces that explore daily events. These hybrid narratives are a mixture of assumption, imagination, fact and longing.

Sara Jones investigated the geography and architecture of Pilsen. She worked on a series of maps that explore land use and development, and drew every building on 18th Street to learn about the area’s architectural history.
